Man’s dying wish to see the woods one more time

SourceA terminally ill ex-forest ranger, who had been unable to venture outside for some years, had his dying wish fulfilled when hospice volunteers and the local fire department took him on his final visit to the great outdoors.

In his former years, Ed (his surname is unknown) enjoyed the country life, but after becoming sick he was unable to do the tasks that he previously was, confined to the interior of an adult family home.

It makes me happy to see to see a bit of good done in this increasingly litigious, by-the-book world. A tip of the cap to the Snohomish Fire Department for letting this nature lover get one last look at the world he loved. I hope it gave him some peace.

I’d be lying if I didn’t get a sense of my own mortality reading this story. It’s a reminder to the rest of us to enjoy each day and even moment as it comes. You never know when you’ll be in a position where you’ll be unable to do so.
